First Nordic Skating of the Season in Ideal Conditions
Over the weekend, temperatures stayed well below freezing for a couple of days, and on Sunday, December 14, 2025, we finally got to kick off the Nordic skating season — and in perfect conditions. Clear, smooth black ice had formed, measuring about 5–7 centimeters thick.
This is exactly what Nordic skating is all about: you have to seize the moment when conditions are just right. The weather can change quickly, and opportunities are often short-lived. That was the case this time as well — snowfall during the night between Sunday and Monday covered the clear ice, making it impossible, at least for now, to enjoy it any longer.
On top of that, the forecast once again promises a prolonged warm spell. Fortunately, the season opener had time to remind us why Nordic skating is so rewarding when the timing is spot on.
