Ice and Snow Conditions Update

This is the first completely snowless Christmas in Oravi in our company’s history. Ice has formed only in some areas. Shallow bays and small ponds are frozen, but the large open lake areas remain unfrozen. At the moment, for example, it is not possible to reach Linnansaari by crossing the ice.

We were able to go skating on Oravinvesi as early as December 14, but after that the weather turned significantly milder and the ice melted in many places. Today, December 26, we went skating again on ice approximately 5–8 cm thick. Extreme caution is required when moving on the ice of this thickness, and knowledge of current areas is essential, so we do not recommend going onto the ice without local knowledge and proper safety equipment.
